Abstract The optimization of wiretap codes at finite blocklength remains to date a challenging endeavor. We show that the equivocation ensured by coset coding over a binary erasure wiretap channel can be precisely calculated with only knowledge of the full-rank submatrices of the generator matrix. This simplification of the equivocation calculation results in significant computational savings when optimizing wiretap codes at finite blocklength.
